“Oh, hey, Rob Gronkowski! How was your summer?” “Ahh, there he is – old Delanie Walker. Good to see you again, bud.” “Jordan Reed? I haven’t seen you in forever. What have you been up to?”

They’re all here, they’re all healthy, and they’re all full of promise. Sure, some “new kids”, such as Trey Burton or Ricky Seals-Jones, can make a splashy entrance, but when it doubt, fantasy owners tend to gravitate toward the guys who have been good in the past.

Matchups are always tough to evaluate this early in the season, especially for tight end. We can make judgment calls on “good defenses” and “bad defenses”, but as we see every year, some defenses, even good ones, struggle specifically against this position. Last year’s stats only tell us so much (except for the Cleveland’s, who are going on three straight years of being one of the worst teams at defending TEs), so we have to mainly look at talent, projected targets, and overall offense.

There are surprises every week at this position, as dud games from stars are seemingly just as common as good performances, but we’re going to mostly play it by the book in Week1 and see where the chips fall. We know a few of these guys will soon be “day-to-day” with injuries (looking at you, Jordan Reed), so you might as well play them while they’re healthy.
