Playing matchups at this point in the season isn’t something that most fantasy owners will need to do. A select few might need to consider adding a different player to their squad (if Jimmy Garoppolo is your guy, he’s probably the one who gets the biggest downgrade), but typically in Week 1, you stick to what you have and give your QB1 a shot to prove what he can do.

At the same time, the matchups that we’re worried about are based entirely on speculation. We can look at last year’s defensive results and the moves that were made to help improve defensive units, but until they are all on the field in meaningful NFL action, it’s hard to quantify exactly how good each defensive team might be.

Don’t panic yet. It’s Week 1, and there will be some stress in picking who to start. But with an (almost) fully healthy team, this week is probably the “easiest week” when it comes to worrying about your starting lineup.

Reminder: We will keep these rankings updated in the lead-up to Week 1, so check back often for the latest news and injury updates! And if you’re looking for more fantasy advice, check out the SN Fantasy podcast and find out how your team will lose in Week 1 of the season.
