As the hummingbird approached the husband’s hand, he tried to contain his joy and slowly rotated so that the interaction could be caught better on camera. His eyes darted between the bird and the camera. Many Reddit users were blown away by the interaction.
“You lucky ducks! I would have the same facial expression if that was me. So cool!!” one person wrote about how close the hummingbird got. “This is too damn adorable, stop it,” another chimed in.
“Treasure this man. This genuinely made me smile for the first time in a while,” a third user gushed.
Reddit user Barney 345 had similar experiences when they fed hummingbirds. “We all make the same face when one shows up, get silent, don’t move a muscle and just wait while they get all they want. They’re like little rockets too as soon as they move its off to the races and they’ll clear across the yard in a split second.”
One bird enthusiast offered advice for feeding bluejays. “Put a peanut in your hand. Hold it out flat above your head and a blue jay will fly by and swipe it,” they wrote. “Did it once at my Grandma’s house in Vancouver. Started with some peanuts (in the shell) on her railing. Then I stood out with one on my hand. Saw it land on the roof… checking me out then it swooped in and stole it. So cool.”
“A lot of birds that eat seed will come and eat out of your hand if you just hold still enough - a little chickadee came and ate out of my hand once!” another excited user chimed in.
